Jeffrey N. Katz, MD, MS is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Director of the Robert Brigham Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Clinical Research Center, Co-Director of the Brigham Spine Center, and Chief of the Section of Clinical Sciences, Division of Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy, Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is also Associate Professor of Environmental Health at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Katz's research focuses on the management of musculoskeletal disorders including carpal tunnel syndrome and other upper extremity disorders, lumbar spinal stenosis and other spinal disorders, and advanced osteoarthritis. He has had a particular interest in surgical outcomes. His work had addressed clinical and health care policy regarding surgery for musculoskeletal disorders, particularly the effect of hospital and surgeon volume on patient outcomes, and racial, ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in the provision of total joint replacement.
Dr. Katz is Deputy Editor of Spine and has served as Associate Editor of Arthritis Care and Research, and as a member of the editorial boards of Arthritis and Rheumatism and Arthritis Care and Research. He was a Panelist on the National Academy of Science Panel on Work and Musculoskeletal Disorders. He has served on the Publications Committee for the American College of Rheumatology and is Chair of the Clinical Research Program of the 2004 ACR Annual Meeting. Dr. Katz received the American College of Rheumatology's Henry Kunkel Young Investigator Award in 2000.
